Where should I stay in Bali?

Bali is an incredible destination, it’s paradise. With stunning beaches, natural beauty, lush rice-terraces and so much more, this island will be a vacation full of adventures and memories. Definitely, one to tick off your bucket list.

Last year (2017) from January to July, Bali attracted 3.4 million international tourists, that’s a 23.5% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Some prefer the surfing, shopping and clubbing vibes in Kuta, whereas others visit for a more spiritual and cultural retreat in Ubud.

Exploring the best of Bali isn’t too hard since it’s compact, so planning day excursions are possible and definitely recommended. However, just be aware that traffic wise, anywhere from the south can be a nightmare 99% of the time, so choosing your accommodation in Bali is one of the key components to a memorable vacation. Whether it’ll be a relaxing or an adventurous thrilling getaway, there’s something for everyone.

Public transport in Bali is well…basically non-existent. The tourist areas are forever crowded, however, there’s plenty of taxis and Bali drivers that are happy to help. If you do your research and plan out your trips in advance, you’ll be able to get private transport sorted for $40-60 a day depending on where you’re visiting. That usually consists of up to 8 hours, petrol and parking included – keeping you at ease to enjoy your holiday. Without further ado, here are the best places for you to stay in Bali.

Best Place to Stay in Bali for Couples – Jimbaran

If you’re thinking of taking your partner to Bali for a romantic holiday or honeymoon, then Jimbaran is one of the best locations, alongside Nusa Dua. Both of which promote romantic getaways with packaged deals for those newly-weds. Some resorts in Nusa Dua are child-friendly whereas resorts in Jimbaran don’t really focus on catering for children.

The beaches are sometimes empty and ideal for topping up the sun, romantic beach walks and candlelit dinners in the evening at sunset. With plenty of fresh seafood, fireworks, musicians and traditional Balinese dances, Jimbaran is definitely recommended for a romantic holiday.

Bali Waterfalls #1 – GitGit Waterfall, Singaraja

GitGit Waterfall, Singaraja
GitGit Waterfall, Singaraja

GitGit waterfall located in Singaraja is by far one of the easiest waterfalls to discover. It’s easily reachable by road is one of Bali’s most famous tourist attractions. So with that in mind, this one might be worth visiting early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The waterfall is believed to be thirty-five metres high and is surrounded by beautiful greenery. You’ll have plenty of photo opportunities.

Bali Waterfalls #2 – Sekumpul Waterfall, Singaraja

Sekumpul Waterfall, Singaraja
Sekumpul Waterfall, Singaraja

The Sekumpul waterfall is one of my favourites, in my opinion, it’s one of Bali’s most beautiful waterfalls. Getting up close to this incredible waterfall does take some legwork, but it’s definitely worth it. Make sure you’ve got the right clothing on as you’ll be required to cross dirt roads and paths, lots of slippery rocks and of course the rivers you’ll need to cross close by. It’s quite a trek, but thankfully, you’ve got the locals you can rely on which are more than happy to take you there in exchange for a small fee.

They’ll also be happy to take pictures for you and depending who you go with, some will also give you a fresh young coconut after exploring the waterfalls.

Bali Waterfalls #3 – Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud

Tegenungan waterfall is located within Ubud village, which is not the norm for waterfalls in Bali. They are usually found in mountains, so getting to this waterfall isn’t too much hassle. The waterfall is still beautiful and also has a temple nearby too, making it worth the visit!

Tegenungan Waterfall Address: Jl. Raya Tegenungan, Kemenuh, Ubud 80581

Bali Waterfalls #4 – Munduk Waterfall, Buleleng

NungNung Waterfall is another beauty situated in a small village where you would least expect it, nine hundred metres above sea level. There’s a car park nearby which is fairly easy to find, but just be prepared for the long hike to discover the waterfall. This is definitely one for the Instagram feed!

Bali Waterfalls #6 – Aling-Aling Waterfall, Sambangan

One of the best Bali waterfalls for adrenaline seekers! The Aling-Aling Waterfall is perfect for sliding down thirty-five metres eventually landing in the crystal clear pool -which is also fantastic for a swim! So make sure you pack your swimwear! Whilst the journey to this waterfall can be tough, walking across various rice fields, up and down lots of steps, it’s all worth it when you reach the waterfall. There are also several other waterfalls close by too, so make sure to explore those, or get a local to give you a tour.

Bali Waterfalls #7 – Carat Waterfalls, Singaraja

The Carat Waterfalls are situated very close to the village of Tamblang within Singaraja. The journey to get there can be a little tricky, you’ll be required to trek around eight hundred metres, which includes various obstacles including a wobbly bamboo bridge and steep cliffs, so this one is for those who are a little more experienced. When you arrive, there are two waterfalls, a small and large one, along with a small pool at the bottom, again perfect for those who would love to go for a swim.

Bali Waterfalls #8 – Blahmantung Waterfall, Tabanan

The incredible Blahmantung Waterfall is nestled within Tabanan, surrounded by plenty of coffee plantations and the beautiful green rainforest. This is one of Bali’s many hidden treasures and will take quite some time to get there. Climbing over slippery rocks can be quite a difficult one for some, so take care when doing so. For those that love a good jump, you’ll definitely enjoy this fifty metres high waterfall with a plunge pool below.

It’s not too far away and is known for spiritual healings to take place. This incredible waterfall is located in the Theobroma cacao area, so keep an eye out. The waterfall is commonly used for bathing due to its gentle slope and the water flow.

Bali Waterfalls #10 – SingSing Waterfalls, Lovina

If you’re spending a reasonable amount of time in Bali and plan to head up north, then SingSing Waterfall is worth a visit. Located in right near Lovina, in Labuan Haji Temukus district, you’ll find this beauty. It’s commonly recognised as the most romantic waterfall in Bali, mostly due to its calming peaceful atmosphere.

SingSing Waterfalls Address: Tigawasa, Banjar, Buleleng Regency, Bali

Bali Waterfalls #11 – Yeh Mampeh Waterfall, Singaraja

Yeh Mampeh Waterfall Bali

Bali’s tallest waterfall, Yeh Mampeh Waterfall can be discovered in a small village called Les. It’s quite a hike down the falls, but absolutely worth it. You’ll be able to explore the nearby caves, swim in the fresh water and top up the tan whilst taking in the beautiful surroundings of the green hills. One of Bali’s most beautiful natural surroundings.

Yeh Mampeh Waterfall Address: Les, Tejakula, Les, Buleleng, Kabupaten Buleleng, Bali

These are, in my opinion, the best waterfalls in Bali. All of which offer beautiful views, lots to explore and some with plenty of great restaurants nearby. Just take care when visiting them as some can be a little tricky.

Which of these Bali waterfalls would you visit and tick off your bucket list?

Lagoon Spa Seminyak Review

DSC05293

A spa treatment is a wonderful idea when abroad and wanting to relax and unwind. During my stay at Villa Seminyak Estate & Spa in Bali, I was treated to a two-hour spa treatment of my choice at the Lagoon Spa Seminyak. It’s been quite a few months since I had a massage, so I was excited about this.

Lagoon Spa Seminyak – My Experience

Upon arriving at the award-winning luxury spa, I was greeted by very welcoming receptionists and the masseuse. The building is pretty easy to find and as soon as you enter the area, you’ll already start to feel relaxed due to the comfortable and beautiful surrounding interior. The Spa itself is clean, has plenty to offer and beautifully designed.

After I had a welcome drink, I was asked to complete a little form which took a minute or two and then I was lead around the property for a quick tour before my massage began. I decided to choose the Seminyak Estate Massage and the Seminyak Estate Facial. Both of which were amazing.

Seminyak Estate Massage:

“Seminyak Estate signature massage in a unique combination technique of Shiatsu, Balinese massage using palm, thumb pressure, arm and long strokes with warm massage oil to release muscular tension, tightness and promote relaxation.”

Seminyak Estate Facial:

“Our signature facial is made from fresh natural ingredients of yoghurt, honey, brown sugar, cucumber, egg. It is nutrient rich ingredients and recommended for all type of skin complete with head and hand massage.”

Once I entered the private luxury treatment villa, I was asked to take my clothes off and put on their massage pants and then lay on the bed. I did, of course, have a towel to cover me up and the therapist left the room.

The treatment was very relaxing and quiet allowing me to rest and unwind. I was surprised with all the oils and creams plus the back massage was truly amazing.  Although, I didn’t expect the treatment to begin with a foot wash, however, it was nice.

The only thing I wasn’t too keen on was the facial scrub, it felt a little rough at times but in the end, after the treatment, it felt nice and smooth.

Overall, the treatment was extremely good, the staff were very friendly and welcoming in a professional manner. I can see why they were awarded the 2017 Global Winner of World Luxury Spa Awards.

If you’re looking for a luxury treatment whilst in Bali, I highly recommend looking at their treatments and consider giving them a go. Click here to visit their site.

My Cocktail Masterclass at Hard Rock Hotel Bali

Cocktail Masterclass at Hard Rock Hotel Bali

I’m a big cocktail lover, especially when I’m travelling and abroad in the sunny countries – a cocktail is always tempting. When I was invited to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Bali and join in on a cocktail masterclass, there was no second thinking. I never made cocktails before so this experience was a must!

Hard Rock Hotel Cocktail Masterclass Experience

Before I began the masterclass, I was greeted by the Yudha, the master of the cocktails at Hard Rock Hotel Bali. He told me a bit about himself and his background of making cocktails at the hotel whilst we were both sipping on cocktails.

The cocktail masterclass was set-up at the Hard Rock Hotel Centerstage entrance. The beautiful interior and stylish ambience set the scene for the session to begin. During the session, the mixologist, Yudha, shared various interesting tips and tricks when it comes to making cocktails and grabbing people’s attention for them to come over and to be served by you.

Cocktail Masterclass at Hard Rock Hotel Bali

During the experience, I made three different cocktails, a Mojito, B53 and a sex on the beach. They were carefully planned, mixed, tried and tested.

From start to finish, I added each ingredient to the cocktail shaker as directed by Yudha. Carefully measuring, pouring and shaking to create the perfect cocktail.

Learning about all the ingredients I added and seeing the end result was real added value. The master of cocktail making, Yudha, shared his knowledge with me to create the tasty cocktails. It wasn’t all work though, it was done in a fun and exciting way.

The safe was spacious and suitable to store iPads and other smaller gadgets. However, you may have trouble with fitting a laptop/MacBook. The wifi was a little slow and took several attempts to get some connection, of which still seemed to be a little slow. However, the wifi in the lobby and restaurant is very fast.

Other than the above, I’m happy to say this resort is very comfortable and worth looking into if you decide to book a special luxury getaway.

Dining at Villa Seminyak Estate & Spa

Whilst staying at Villa Seminyak Estate & Spa, I had both dinner and breakfast the following morning. Both were delicious and the menus were varied. For breakfast, there is a buffet available with some foods available to order, such as scrambled eggs, omelettes etc.
